I'm curious how many people feel appreciated at their job? Do you have a boss that consistently tells you "good job" or "thanks for all you do"? I know from working in the corporate world that goes a long way. I worked for a company (name left out on purpose :)) where we all worked long hours, minimal lunch breaks, some really tough managers and very seldom got appreciated. Now I'm not talking about praising my every task done, afterall that was my job. But there were nights I would be there until 8:00 or later for deadlines and it became expected. A "thanks for staying late to get that done". HOWEVER, come year end... my bonus. WOW! They without a doubt took care of us at year end. Now I'm not saying I don't appreciate that and could certainly have used it but I'm no dummy... I know they had a lot of left over money they needed to get rid of before tax season. (insert DUH emoji)... I DID appreciate it, I DID need it and I graciously accepted it but I always said "a little appreciation throughout the year and not once a year would be great.
I know, I may sound totally ungrateful but if I'm being honest... A simple act of appreciation throughout the year would have made me a bit more content, less stressed, more eager to perform harder and better than I already was.
Anyone else been in this position? Or on the contrary, do you have a manager that actually does respect and appreciate you all year long? Let's hear about it!
If you're a manager out there... take note on above. Appreciation when deserved goes a long way and doesn't have to cost anything or take any time at all! Hell... send a text or an email!
